The Allegheny Mountain Rollin' Thunder was organized in 1990 as a recreational outlet for people with disabilities. In 1992 we joined The National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA). In 2003, we joined with the Erie Bay City Lightning and became the Pennsylvania Thunder and Lightning.
We Compete in the Keystone Conference which includes teams from :
Johnstown, Pennsylvania - Flood City Rollers
(Conference independent)
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania - Steel Wheelers
Buffalo, New York - EPVA
Youngstown, Ohio - YMCA Hotwheels
Conference games are played on Saturday's at 1:00 p.m. at the South St. Marys Street Elementary School Gym. The season begins in October and runs through January.
Like college basketball the Keystone Conference holds a Conference Tournament. This is usually held in October.
The Pennsylvania Thunder and Lightning Wheelchair Basketball Team is sponsored, in part, by Life and Independence For Today and by Community Resources for Independence.

Wheelchair Basketball is played by NCAA Rules, With a few exceptions.
Each player in the NWBA must be classified according to the degree of his/her disability.
| Class | Disability |
| 1 | Quadriplegic, High level paraplegic |
| 2 | Low Level paraplegic. |
| 3 | Amputee, low-level paraplegic with stomach muscles. |
